The American Board of School Neuropsychology (ABNSP), Inc. was originally established in 1999 in response to the growing interest in school neuropsychology and a need for a peer-reviewed credential that would attest to a practitioners entry-level competency in school neuropsychology. The ABSNP, Inc. was reorganized in 2010 and became the ABSNP, LLC. The ABSNP, LLC ihas set entry-level professional standards for the practice of school neuropsychology and issues the Diplomate in School Neuropsychology credential to qualified practitioners.

The Diplomate in School Neuropsychology credential is awarded to applicants that demonstrate competency in school neuropsychology. The body of specialized knowledge in the the overall field of school psychology has grown exponentially in recent years. Through natural selection or as a result of a need for specialized services, practitioners are increasingly choosing a subspecialty area as a focus of their practice. School neuropsychology is one such subspecialty. What criteria is established to determine competency for those claiming expertise in schoool neuropsychology?

The ABSNP, LLC was created to recognize the competency of school neuropsychologists. The ABSNP, LLC requires documentation of one's professional skills and training, passage of a written objective examination, and an oral defense of a written case study. The ABSNP, LLC provides validation of a school neuropsychologist's professional skills and helps promote those skills to your peers and to the public. Current Diplomates in School Neuropsychology have maintained their professional skills through documented annual continuing education requirements.
